Meet Bonnke:
✔ ESCAPED GENOCIDE
Bonnke escaped genocide as a refugee from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, living in a tent at a United Nations Refugee camp in Burundi from the age of 7-10. Bonnke and his family came to America, where he grew up on the Syracuse Northside.
✔ EARNED AMERICAN CITIZENSHIP
Growing up on the Northside, Bonnke worked hard, learned English, and proudly earned his American Citizenship.
✔ GRADUATED AS VALEDICTORIAN
Bonnke graduated from city schools as Valedictorian in 2016, before earning his engineering degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). Bonnke now works as an Operations Specialist for Wegmans Food Markets, where he works to promote efficiency and data-driven decision making in the private sector.
✔ GAVE BACK TO HIS COMMUNITY
Bonnke gives back to the community every day as a facilitator for the Washington Square Neighborhood Task force, as a board member at the Onondaga County Resource Recycling Agency (OCCRA).
✔ LAUNCHED A NON-PROFIT
Bonnke is the founder of a 501c3 non-profit aimed at supporting and mentoring youth in our community to become productive members of society. He personally works with several Northside youth to achieve this goal.
✔ RUNNING TO REPRESENT US
As voters on the Northside, now the choice is ours! Vote Bonnke Sekarore for County Legislator so he can be our voice in Onondaga County Government, and work to restore public safety, grow economic opportunity, and serve the community.
Bonnke’s To-Do List:
✔ ENHANCE PUBLIC SAFETY
– Bonnke will support funding for local police and all first responders that help keep our community safe.
– Bonnke will support efforts to foster connections and grow goodwill between police and the communities they serve.
– Bonnke will support collaboration between the City of Syracuse Police Department and the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Department in ways that benefit the residents of the Northside.
✔ GROW ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY
– Bonnke will support economic development efforts like Micron that will bring good paying jobs to Central New York.
– Bonnke will support workforce development and education partnerships that make it easier for the people of the Northside and CNY to take advantage of new employment opportunities.
– Bonnke will support initiatives that grow the stock of housing in our community and make it easier for Northsiders to purchase and remain in their own homes.
✔ BE AN ACCESSIBLE REPRESENTATIVE
– Bonnke will be an accessible representative to help Northside residents secure County services and programs.
– Bonnke will continue to be present in the community and responsive to constituents’ needs & concerns. When you reach out, he will be there for you.
– Bonnke will work hard to deliver the grant money that the Northside deserves to rebuild infrastructure and support local organizations & initiatives.
